How to edit your existing theme

Upload your current Shopify theme to Clyro and start editing it with AI.

You do not have to start from the Clyro base theme. You can upload your current Shopify theme and edit it with AI.

Step 1: Export your theme from Shopify

  1. Go to your Shopify admin
  2. Navigate to Online Store > Themes
  3. On your active theme, click the three dots (...) menu
  4. Click Download theme file
  5. Shopify will email you a .zip file (usually takes a few seconds)

Step 2: Upload to Clyro

  1. On the Clyro dashboard at editor.clyro.com, click New theme
  2. Give it a name
  3. Choose Upload your theme and select the .zip file
  4. Wait for the upload to finish (depends on theme size)

Step 3: Start editing

Your theme files are now loaded in the editor. The preview shows your actual theme. Chat with the AI to make changes. All your existing sections, templates, and settings are preserved.

What themes work?

Any Shopify 2.0 theme works. This includes:

  • Dawn and other free Shopify themes
  • Paid themes from the Shopify Theme Store
  • Third-party themes
  • Custom-built themes

Note: Legacy themes (Shopify 1.0 / Vintage) are not supported. If your theme does not use JSON templates, it is probably a 1.0 theme.
